Add or subtract working days from a date
How to add business days to a date
Choose a start date and enter the number of business days to move. A positive number moves forward; a negative number moves backward. Zero returns the start date unchanged. The first day after or before the start date is the first date tested, so the start date is not counted as day one.
The target is reached only after the requested number of eligible working dates has been counted. The audit trail compares that working-day offset with the total calendar days crossed and identifies dates skipped along the way.
- Use 10 to find a date ten working days later
- Use -10 to find a date ten working days earlier
- Use 0 when you only need to preserve the entered date
Example: add 10 business days
With a Monday-Friday schedule and no holidays, adding 10 business days normally crosses two complete workweeks. If the start date is Friday, October 23, 2026, the target date is Friday, November 6, 2026. Four weekend dates are crossed but do not count toward the requested ten days.
If Monday, November 2 is entered as a custom holiday, the target moves to Monday, November 9. The holiday and both weekends appear in the skipped-date audit trail, making the extra calendar time visible.
Subtract business days for an earlier date
Enter a negative whole number to move backward. Subtracting one business day from a Monday on a Monday-Friday schedule returns the previous Friday because Saturday and Sunday are skipped. The same holiday rules apply in reverse.
This is useful for planning a preparation date from a known deadline. It does not determine whether a legal or contractual rule counts the deadline itself; confirm that convention before choosing the offset.
Choose the workweek and custom holidays
Monday-Friday skips Saturday and Sunday. Monday-Saturday skips Sunday only. The seven-day option treats every weekday as scheduled work, while custom holiday dates can still be excluded in any mode.
Holiday entries are de-duplicated before calculation. A holiday that falls on a scheduled day off is classified as a weekly day off rather than deducted a second time. You can enter up to 50 dates, and they stay in your browser while you use the page.
Adding days is different from counting a date range
This calculator answers a date-offset question: what date is N business days before or after one starting date? It does not count how many workdays exist between two dates. Use the separate working days calculator when both boundary dates are already known.
All date arithmetic uses calendar dates in UTC, without attaching local clock times. That keeps the result stable across daylight-saving transitions and browser time zones.
Limits for deadlines, shipping, and payroll
The calculator supports offsets from -10,000 through 10,000 and calendar years 0001 through 9999. It does not automatically load national, regional, bank, market, carrier, or company holidays, including substitute observance dates.
Date arithmetic is not a ruling on filing deadlines, settlement dates, delivery commitments, benefits, or payroll policy. Verify the applicable workweek, holiday calendar, time-zone cutoff, and start-date convention with the authoritative rule before relying on the target date.
